Empty Bowls Image

Each winter, the Food Bank hosts "Empty Bowls," a hunger awareness event and fundraiser.  It is a very special evening and we hope you'll consider joining us in 2011!

  • Dinner  of gourmet soups and bread baked by local chefs is served.

  • You can browse the silent auction which includes art, gift certificates, goodie bundles and big ticket items from local businesses.

  • Get your friends or business together and sponsor a table to help raise funds to feed Siouxland's hungry.

  • Take home your own hand-crafted bowl created by local artists, which is your reminder of all the bowls that truly are empty--those families without enough food.

Looking forward to spring ...

AGENCY CONFERENCE     We are planning for our annual agency conference!  This will be our second annual meeting.  We really like the opportunity to come together and share thoughts and information.  Agency partners, please mark your calendars for April 15, 2010.  The meeting will include lunch and be held at the Security National Bank office on 6th and Pierce Streets.  Invitations will be coming very soon!  RSVP's will be need for an accurate lunch count.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD     April is also "Scouting for Food" -- the Boy Scouts collecting and delivering food to the Food Bank of Siouxland!  This year's event will be April 17, 2010 and we will be here at the warehouse sorting the product as it comes in.  We need lots of extra volunteers, so give us a call and let us know you'd like to join us for the fun!  We expect to be here for a few hours in the early afternoon -- likely finished up by 3 PM.

LETTER CARRIER'S FOOD DRIVE     May will bring us the Letter Carrier's Food Drive.  This is a national event -- the largest food drive, coast to coast, of the year.  May 8, 2010 will be the big event this year.  Again, we need LOTS of volunteers to help sort product as it comes to our building.  You're welcome to work one or two shifts:  1 to 4 PM, or 4 to 7 PM.  Again, give us a call and let us know that you're up to the challenge!

IT'S A LONG COLD WINTER ...

Please remember those who are hit hardest by this difficult winter -- the hungry and the needy in our community. A donation to the Food Bank helps ensure that no one goes to bed hungry. Make a financial donation, hold a food drive at your office or church, or perhaps the funds collected at work for "Jeans Day" can be a donation from the company. All forms of help are most appreciated! Remember, we can buy 13 pounds of food with one dollar, so every little bit helps! It will "warm your heart" to know that you have helped someone less fortunate!

HOW TO HOST YOUR OWN FOODBANK FUNDRAISER EVENT

Fundraisers make an especially significant impact because for every $1 donated to the Food Bank, we are able to obtain $17 (retail value) worth of food.

A food drive could consist of a collection of a variety of non-perishable items, or you could focus on one particular item such as cereal, peanut butter, tuna fish, or macaroni and cheese. You can also collect personal care items, which are always welcome donations.

Donations of either food or money are always appreciated. If you prefer to donate money, you may send the check directly to the Food Bank, or click on the Donation button on the left to pay via PayPal.

Any contribution, no matter how big or how small, is greatly appreciated because it all helps us help those in need.
