Donation includes 27,000 shelf-stable milk cartons to the Food Bank of Siouxland

Sioux City, Iowa. (June 10, 2026) – As rising costs, from groceries to gas, continues to strain household budgets, more families are turning to food assistance for support. In fact, nearly 70% of people seeking food assistance report being employed. In Iowa alone, more than 385,000 people face food insecurity, including more than 120,000 children.
This summer, Kemps is donating more than 250,000 Giving Cow milk cartons across the Midwest. Today’s donation of 27,000 milk cartons, in partnership with Hy-Vee, will help support the Food Bank of Siouxland and the local pantries it serves.
Giving Cow Milk Provides a Nutritious, Shelf-Stable Solution for Local Pantries
Milk is one of the most requested items, but it’s also one of the hardest for local pantries to keep on hand because they often don’t have enough refrigeration. Giving Cow’s shelf-stable, single-serve 8-ounce carton of 1% chocolate and 2% white milk last up to one year, compared to about 20 days for traditional fresh milk, making it easier for pantries to offer milk for families when they need it most.
“Kemps is committed to making sure families have access to nutritious staples like milk,” said Molly Brink, a spokesperson for the brand. “We know many local pantries don’t always have the refrigeration needed to keep milk available. Giving Cow offers a practical, shelf-stable solution that helps make wholesome milk more accessible to families in our communities.”
Local Impact
Kemps and Hy-Vee’s donation will be distributed through the Food Bank of Siouxland’s network of local pantries, soup kitchens, schools, and community partners to help families across the region access nutritious milk.
“We’re grateful to Kemps and Hy-Vee for helping make nutritious milk more accessible to families in our community,” said Jacob Wanderscheid, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Siouxland. “Milk is one of the items families ask for most, but it can also be one of the hardest for us to keep on hand. These shelf-stable cartons help us provide children, seniors, and families across the region with the nutrition they need.”
Since 2020, Kemps has donated more than 5 million Giving Cow milk cartons, investing over $2 million to help local Midwest food pantries provide nutritious milk to families in need.
