The Food Bank of Siouxland Recognizes Hunger Action Month

ree

For the Food Bank of Siouxland and other Feeding America affiliated food banks, September is officially recognized as Hunger Action Month. This annual campaign aims to raise awareness about hunger and how it affects communities.

Throughout Hunger Action Month, the Food Bank of Siouxland will host a variety of programming for the community to get involved in.

  • September 1-30: Light Up Orange! – The City of Sioux City is recognizing Hunger Action Month by lighting up the clock tower orange, calling attention to those in Siouxland facing food insecurity.

  • September 1: National Food Bank Day – Kick off Hunger Action Month by following our organization on social media and following along with our Hunger Action Month campaigns.

  • September 8: 22nd Annual Golf Classic presented by Wells Enterprises – Join us at Whispering Creek Golf Club for a round of golf and fun in the sun. Or stop by with a canned food item at the on-site food drive and receive a FREE ice cream treat from Wells! For more information, visit: www.siouxlandfoodbank.org/golf-2025.

  • September 10: Guided Food Bank Tour (8:30 a.m.) – Come see how our Food Bank operates, RSVP to info@siouxlandfoodbank.org.

  • September 13: National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day – Show your young ones a new kitchen skill and show them some pantry staples that their neighbors might need to cook a nutritious meal.

  • September 16: Guided Food Bank Tour (3:30 p.m.) – Come see how our Food Bank operates, RSVP to info@siouxlandfoodbank.org

  • September 18: Wear Orange Day – Orange is the official color of Hunger Action Month! Break out your orange and tell people why you’re sporting the color.

  • September 25: Celebrate Our Friends – Join us at Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor at 1 p.m. where agencies, volunteers, and donors will be recognized for their generous support in the Food Bank of Siouxland.

Community members can also get involved with Hunger Action Month by dropping off non-perishable food donations to the blue barrels located in the Sioux City metro Hy-Vee locations. The Food Bank of Siouxland is grateful to all individuals and organizations who participate and further our vision of alleviating hunger throughout the communities we serve.
