Fareway Stores have once again joined with the Food Bank of Siouxland in supporting neighbors experiencing food insecurity this holiday season. The grocery store is donating the entirety of the corn to the Holiday Harvest Boxes program.

The Holiday Harvest Boxes program aims to alleviate the budgets and lessen the stress of the season by allowing neighbors to save for holiday costs such as: dinner protein, gas for travel, presents, etc.

"As a business, we believe in being good stewards of our community,” says TJ Erickson, Fareway Manager. “Partnering with the Food Bank of Siouxland in their Holiday Harvest program will help support families will make a meaningful impact on our community. We are thankful for the opportunity to help with this project."

Every box provides side dishes for traditional holiday meals such as: corn, cream of mushroom, green beans, instant mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and Jell-O. Once packed, the boxes go on to the menu for the Food Bank’s over 100 agencies to order. Thanks to the Food Bank’s buying power, each box costs $5.

“The Holiday Harvest Boxes help families across Siouxland gather around the table and enjoy a holiday meal without the worry of how they’ll afford it,” says Jacob Wanderscheid, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Siouxland. “Thanks to partners like Fareway and the generosity of our community, we’re able to bring comfort and hope to our neighbors during this special season.”

This year’s goal is to distribute 2,500 boxes to the Siouxland community. Neighbors can call their local pantry to ask if they will be ordering boxes to distribute.

Thank you to this year’s sponsors and donors – Fareway, the Kind World Foundation, Wells Enterprises, Iowa Total Care, KTIV, Hy-Vee, and First Interstate Bank.
