“Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive Brings In Over 16,500 lbs. of Donations

The National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) 33rd Annual “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” benefiting the Food Bank of Siouxland, collected 16,652 pounds of non-perishable food items this past weekend.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the country’s largest one-day food drive, providing residents with an easy way to donate food to those in need. Postal service customers simply leave their donations of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox to be collected by letter carriers on their postal routes.

Twenty-five volunteers came to sort and pack boxes to be distributed to the Food Bank’s 100+ agencies throughout their 11-county service area.

The Food Bank of Siouxland’s most commonly requested food drive items include: cereal, soup, canned meat, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables.

"Every bag, box, and can collected helps the Food Bank of Siouxland provide meals to households facing food insecurity throughout Siouxland. It's inspiring to see the community, and especially the Letter Carriers, come together to make a real difference and I am honored to be part of this nationwide effort to Stamp Out Hunger," says Jacob Wanderscheid, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Siouxland.

Thank you to all who donated to this year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
